The Lyceum, called Lycée in French, is the last cycle of Secondary education. It aims to help students build a training and orientation project for their higher studies. It is made up of three important stages:
- Seconde: from 15 to 16 years old.
- Première: from 16 to 17 years old.
- Terminal: from 17 to 18 years old.
Seconde
It aims to provide a broad portfolio of options to students. It provides them with a common general culture and enables them to discover new areas of literature, science and economics. This stage is divided into:
Common learning (80% of the schedule).
Exploration learning chosen by the students, at least one compulsory related to the economy.
Common learning schedules and programs are identical for everyone. in the following disciplines: French, foreign languages 1 and 2, history and geography, mathematics, physics and chemistry, life and earth sciences, physical education, civic, legal and social education.
Première y Terminale
The reform carried out by the French Ministry of National Education foresees the implementation of a new baccalaureate in 2021 and will propose to Première and Terminale students a common curriculum with the possibility of choosing different specialties and options.
The Baccalauréat reform will generate a common teaching block, 16 hours per week in Première and 15:30 in Terminale, (French / philosophy, foreign languages 1 and 2, physical education, moral and civic education).
From Première a progressive specialization begins, preparing students for their higher studies. Specialization teachings are the first stage in the construction of the undergraduate project.
Students have the possibility to choose between 3 specialization courses (12 hours per week) in Première, and 2 specialization courses (12 hours per week) in Terminale. Within the selection of teachings we find:
- History, geography, geopolitics and political science.
- Economic and social sciences.
- Life and earth sciences.
- Mathematics.
- Humanities, literature and philosophy.
- Foreign languages, literature and cultures.
- Literature, languages and cultures of Antiquity.
- Physics and chemistry.
In addition, students have the possibility to choose optional courses, one at Première and two at Terminale, lasting 3 hours per week. A selection of optional teachings will be:
- Rights and great challenges of the contemporary world.
- Advanced mathematics.
- Complementary mathematics.
- Foreign language 3.
- Languages and cultures of antiquity.
At the end of the Terminale year and after obtaining the baccalaureate, students can continue their studies at a French university, an English-speaking country or in Colombia, thanks to their high multilingual skills.
