The Lyceum is located in one of the most beautiful natural environments on the outskirts of the City of Bogotá. Our wide and modern architecture specially designed for educational activity, is surrounded by majestic mountains, clean air, ecological trails, high Andean forest with native flora and fauna, meandered by the Teusacá River, farm with a variety of domestic animals and orchards for each grade We have an area of60,000 m2.
This infrastructure becomes a living classroom in which students discover experiences related to the care and protection of the environment, developing projects that mitigate, correct, compensate and prevent the negative impacts that are generated in the Lyceum facilities and this In this way they demonstrate a real commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development, within academic institutions and that this serves as the basis and example of a true educational social responsibility.
Being a 100% Rural Institutionhas the valuable opportunity to carry out socio-environmental educational projects and generate an environmental culture that promotes sustainability, with the active participation of all levels: students, teachers, administrators, parents
Educate in green.
The green pedagogy comes from the author Heike Freire, a graduate in Psychology and Philosophy from the University of Paris X (Nanterre), who has been an advisor to the French government and administration from the Institute of Permanent Education in Paris. Expert in childhood and educational innovation, she is also a journalist and writer. Green education, appeals to the importance of contact with nature from education for a better and correct physical and intellectual development of people, as well as the importance of developing the innate needs we have, of connecting with the natural world and With the rest of the living things.
Because this is the only way we have to assume that our planet is not a dead, material, inert and practical entity that is there for us as a warehouse and pantry of resources to exploit. This ecological unconsciousness is responsible for all the environmental problems that we are currently suffering and for this to change, a change in the current social and cultural systems is also necessary, and the most successful social field in which to bring this change is educational. Today's children spend most of their time in enclosed spaces, sitting, looking at a screen and practically, they no longer enjoy autonomous outdoor play moments.
Its growing isolation from the natural world tries to compensate with an excess of products and technology (stuffed animals, toys, books, cards, cards, movies, electronic games …) that supplant the beings of nature. A virtual reality that moves them further from life, reducing them to a role of spectators and passive consumers. The shortage of space and possibilities of movement, the large number of abstract representations, without any relation to their direct experience, the continuous bombardment of stimuli (lights, strident colors, noise, speed …) to which they are subjected and, ultimately, the lack of nature, could be at the base of numerous ailments that currently afflict childhood: obesity, imbalance of biorhythms, motor and language problems, asthma, stress, aggressiveness, TDHA, depression …
Children need nature. They feel spontaneously attracted to it and, in their contact, develop in a healthier way at all levels: physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual. Being outdoors (at least as much time as they spend inside), in direct interaction with life, should be recognized (and exercised) as a fundamental right of children, in our societies.
